BIM, established under the Sea Fisheries Act 1952, is the Irish State agency responsible for developing the Irish seafood industry.

Overview of BIM

BIM’s mission is to develop the Irish seafood sector by adding value, driving growth, increasing competitiveness and creating jobs.

We help to develop the Irish seafood industry by providing:

  • technical expertise
  • business support
  • funding
  • training
  • and by promoting responsible environmental practices

BIM Strategy

Our strategy, Delivering on the Potential of Irish Seafood 2010-2012 (PDF 2Kb), was developed in consultation with our industry and includes 70 actions geared to realising opportunities for the Irish seafood sector to grow and develop.

Our Board Members

The Board of BIM comprises six directors, including a Chairman appointed by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Our Board determines BIM's programmes in the context of EU and national policies and oversees their implementation.

Our Management Team

BIM has four Development Divisions and a Secretariat, each of which is lead by a Manager reporting to the Chief Executive.
