Our Board Members

Our Board comprises the following people:

Kieran Calnan

Mr. Kieran Calnan's former CEO, of South Western Services (SWS) Limited, a highly successful company that was based in West Cork, which provided Business processing outsourcing services to a long and varied list of blue chip clients in the food and drink, media, banking, telecommunications, retail and energy sectors. As senior manager of the company for 25 years culminating in his appointment as Chief Executive in 1996, Mr. Calnan oversaw the diversification of SWS from a single service provider (agricultural services) to a multi-service company that included Renewables, Business Process Outsourcing, Forestry and Business Services. The energy business was subsequently sold to Bord Gais in 2009 for a consideration in excess of €500 million.

Mr. Calnan played an active role in promoting the award winning West Cork Fuschia brand (aimed at marketing quality products including seafood from the West Cork area) during its formative years. Kieran has also been responsible for driving job creation and revenue to the West Cork region through the development of a state of the art Business/Technology Park culminating in upwards of 1,000 people currently employed on the site.

Kieran is a member of the Advisory Committee of the UCC 'Ignite' programme, an initiative that aims to promote entrepreneurship in the Munster region and also a Director/Shareholder of a U.S. company, Lakeview Energy, who are involved in renewable fuel.

Raymond Harty

Date of Appointment: 26th July 2017

Mr. Harty is a  qualified CPA Accountant, completing his accountancy training with Park Chambers in Waterford and worked with Glanbia before joining the family business; Dungarvan Shellfish Ltd. Mr. Harty has played an important and integral role in the business and understands every aspect of what is required to run a successful shellfish enterprise. Dungarvan Shellfish is a long standing and successful company in operation for 30 years. The company progressed from a small entity to a reputable company that produces the highly sought after 'Speciale' oysters, considered to be the top grade of oyster in the world.

Mr. Harty is passionate about aquaculture and believes Ireland has the resources, in terms of pristine waters and entrepreneurial spirit, to become a world leader in aquaculture. Mr. Harty’s experience in the business of aquaculture will be invaluable to the Board of BIM.


Lisa Vaughan

Date of Appointment: June 2016

Lisa Vaughan is a management consultant and executive coach. Lisa has 20 years of public and private sector experience working with Boards, CEOs, senior teams and co-investors on strategies for growth, funding, leadership and organisational development. Lisa also chairs the Board of Dress for Success a non-profit organization assisting people returning to the workforce and is a member of the Insitute of Directors.

Sean O'Donoghue

Date of Appointment: 26th July 2017

A UCC Civil Engineering graduate, Sean O Donoghue is now CEO of Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation.

Sean O’Donoghue has a long established career in fisheries management working in the Department of Marine and BIM for twenty years prior to taking up his present position in 2000. He has and continues to play a key role in a number of important fisheries issues such as the Review of the Common Fisheries Policy, Technical Conservation Measures, fleet restructuring, quota management, TACs and quotas negotiations and a range of other Common Fisheries Policy issues.

Chairman of the European Association of Producer Organisations, an Executive Committee member on three Regional Advisory Council and Chairman of Working Group 2 in the Pelagic RAC, Sean is also a member of the EU Commission’s Advisory Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture and a Board member and Chairman of the Federation of Irish Fishermen (FIF).

Damien Mcloughlin

Date of Appointment: 26th July 2017

Damien is Professor of Marketing and Associate Dean – Internationalisation and Distance Learning at UCD Smurfit School. He has served on the faculty of the S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, Asia’s leading business school, the Indian School of Business and at Harvard Business School.

Known internationally as a Strategic Marketing specialist, Damien has published more than seventy papers in prestigious international journals and conferences. He published a book with David A. Aaker of UC Berkeley, Strategic Market Management: Global Edition. As a thought leader he has also written more than a dozen case studies, mainly relating to leadership issues in the food and agribusiness sector.
Damien has worked with a number of the world’s leading firms including Alltech, Allianz, Google, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft. He designed and currently leads Alltech’s Global Advanced Management Development Programme and Bord Bia’s Marketing Fellowship Programme, and previously Google’s Marketing Academy for the EMEA region. A former Dean of UCD Smurfit School, in 2008 he was appointed to the Medical Council of Ireland and in 2010 to the board of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), by the Minster for Health and Children. As a board advisor he has worked with a number of high growth firms in the technology sector, including GeoGuides Ltd. Damien has also been active as an expert witness in cases involving marketing issues. His work is highly regarded and has been recognised with a number of domestic and international awards and distinctions.
