BIM Young Fishmonger Competition evolves into a range of supports for retail clients.

BIM will not be continuing with the Young Fishmonger Competition in its current format. However, BIM will be evolving the range of supports which it provides to retail clients.

In 2014, BIM introduced the Young Fishmonger competition, its aim was to recognise and reward talented individuals across the seafood retail sector. This has promoted the Irish seafood industry, by showcasing an exciting and dynamic sector, presently worth €249m and growing each year.

BIM have been delighted at the extremely high standards during the term of the competition and the passion and knowledge which entrants have for the sector. The competition winners have enjoyed prizes which included international retail study visits and trips to the world renowned Rick Steins Seafood Cookery School in Cornwall. Experiences that have helped the winners to further develop their skills and grow their businesses.

The competition has been positively received by seafood retailers around Ireland, and this has been reflected by the volume of applicants received over the past five years. With these successes in mind, it has been decided that the competition has achieved its core aims in developing the seafood retail sector.

Going forward, BIM will not be continuing with the Young Fishmonger Competition in its current format. However, BIM will be evolving the range of supports which it provides to retail clients. Supports include seafood business planning, food safety management, fish handling and filleting techniques, cold chain management, labelling and HACCP advice.

We thank our clients for the passion and support for the competition over the past five years and look forward to working with our stakeholders to grow their seafood businesses.
