Quality Seafood Programme

Quality & Process Development

Quality & Process Development provides specialist technical services to industry, assisting seafood companies with seafood quality/safety and processing efficiency as well as dealing with contemporary issues for the industry through mentoring and provision of industry workshops.

  • Quality Capability Programme (QCP)

    Companies are provided with mentoring underpinned by accredited training with the objective of implementing seafood quality and safety systems. The training element consists of a suite of FETAC accredited modules including Seafood Hygiene Management, Risk Based HACCP and Seafood Auditing.The unit also provide a pre-audit service for the British Retail Consortium (BRC) standard and mentor companies through the certification process under the BRC standard.

  • Industry Workshops

    Contemporary issues in the industry are addressed through industry workshops. Examples of workshops include ‘Control of L. monocytogenes in Seafood Processing’, ‘Labelling of Seafood Products’ and ‘Seafood Processing Plant Layout and Design’.

  • Processing Measure

    Provides grant-aided support for seafood processing capital investment projects. The measure is jointly administered by BIM, Enterprise Ireland and Udaras na Gaeilge. 

  • Energy Management

    In partnership with Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) the SDC provide Energy Management training through the Seafood Energy Assessment & Management Action Programme (SEAMAP). Past participants in the Programme have demonstrated the ability to save between 10% and 20% in energy costs.
