QSP Trade Information

Being on the edge has advantages when it comes to seafood. Ireland has a beautiful indented coastline stretching for 7,500 km around the island and more rivers and lakes per square metre than any other country in Europe. Ireland, therefore, enjoys a reputation for excellent quality seafood, which is exported to more than thirty countries throughout the world.

BIM/Irish Sea Fisheries Board is the government authority with primary responsibility for developing the seafishing and aquaculture industry in Ireland. BIM's main aim is to promote the sustainable development of the Irish seafood industry at sea and ashore by working closely with fishermen, fish farmers, fish processing and marketing companies to support industry development from production to the consumer.

BIM Quality Seafood Programme

Product safety and quality are two of the critical issues facing the modern food industry. Not only do consumers expect information on how and where food is produced, they are also increasingly concerned with food safety issues, the nutritional value of food and the welfare aspects of products they buy. To assure consumers that seafood meets the highest standards through every stage of catching and production, BIM has developed the Quality Seafood Programme (QSP).
